SUP is a water sport and so there is always a chance of falling in the water. That said, we start in flatwater and use big stable boards. We focus on correct stance and how not to fall in. Also how to dress appropriately for weather and water conditions, which may include wet suits. Depending on weather, If you go paddleboarding, part of the fun is falling in.

Poor balance is a concern for most people, but is not necessarily a big problem in learning to SUP. We make sure students are properly matched with the right size board for their height and weight, which gives them maximum stability on the water. We also teach to use the paddle as a brace when standing (like an outrigger) and about using momentum to create stability. We teach “weight shift” techniques for better balance. Many are surprised at how easy it is to stand.
The main muscle groups that are being activated during a paddle are your mid back muscles (latissimus Dorsi), Shoulders (deltoids), Arms (triceps & biceps) and abs. Paddle Boarding is an all-body workout which has more than just the physical rewards, it can also restore your balance and calms your spirit.
Standup paddle boarding can offer a fun and relaxing activity that mostly anyone can do, it is also one of the best workouts out there. People with all body shapes, sizes and ages are engaging in standup paddle boarding as a fun fitness activity. As many people have heard, standup paddle boarding is the best workout for a complete body workout. SUPing is a low impact exercise that is a combination of balance, strength, and endurance which are exercised whether you are paddling or just balancing on your board. It’s not only an excellent core workout but also the toes, legs, back, shoulders, arms and neck which all work together.
We are not able to negotiate posted rates but can negotiate for corporate or large group tours and lessons. Our rates allow us to keep classes small so you receive the most individual attention and attain your paddling goals.
We don’t have a venue on the water, however we will rent to experienced paddlers you must have your own way to transport boards. We also have a special. If you are vacationing on the Russian River, we will deliver and pick up boards to your location between Healdsburg and Duncun Mill.
In reality, nothing is 100% safe. If there was not any element of risk, watersports would be boring. To minimize risk, we use the best equipment, everyone is supplied with Life Jackets (PFD), leashes required to wear appropriate clothing for conditions, Rubicon guides carry safety and first aid kits on all excursions.
Our guides are not only very experienced, they have special training and certifications, in Swift Water Rescue, First Aid, CPR and Lifeguard training. Our SUP instructors are Certified instructors through ACA and/or PSUPA as well as being nice folks.

YES. Always wear your life vest. Not only does this add another layer to keep you warm, it also keeps you floating should you decide to leave the boat mid trip. Our U.S. Coast Guard approved PFDs are required by law, our insurance, and our company policy. We will provide you with an approved life vest, so please do not bring one with you.
Like you, your cell phone, wallet and keys will get wet. Things also have a way of going into the river, never to be seen again. This being the case, we recommend that you DO NOT BRING THESE ITEMS ON THE TRIP WITH YOU unless you have a completely waterproof container. Our guided trips carry cell phones for emergency situations. We suggest that you lock your personal belongings in your car trunk and give your keys to our shop staff. Watches can be worn if they are waterproof. We don’t recommend wearing jewelry.

What Our Customers Are Saying About Their Rubicon Adventure
Great experience. I was uncertain about taking on this activity but game to try. The instructor “John” was thorough and careful with the introduction instruction activity on dry land. When we put in the river John was attentive and provided continuous instruction and encouragement.
It was a perfect day on the Russian River at Wohler Bridge. We paddled up river for about 1/2 the time then stopped for rest and snacks (watermelon, cookies) and lots of talk about surfing, beaches etc.
The trip down was somewhat easier and quicker again with John offering tips and training as we went along.
A big thank you to the Rubicon group for this experience.
I will use their business for further training and adventures.

The Highlight of Our Summer!
My wife and I and our two kids (10 & 12), did the SUP 101 Wohler Bridge Tour and it was absolutely incredible! Bill was a great instructor that got everyone up and paddling in no time. That part of the river is so beautiful and undeveloped that you really felt connected to the nature gliding on the water. Everyone can’t wait to do it again. Highly recommend it!

Best Rafting Company
Rubicon Rafting company is one of a kind. My family and I have gone rafting with Bill and his “crew” for the past 7 years and each time it is fantastic. From the beginning you know you are in very professional and experienced hands. I love the fact that once we sign up everything is taken care of. We show up at the pre arranged camp site, set up our tent and let Bill and his crew take over. After a full day of rafting you come back to an incredible campsite meal made by chef Bill. Then waking up the next morning to coffee and a full breakfast. I can’t say enough about this group and the personal attention they give to each of their rafters.
